IET Free Lecture: Robotics in Extreme Environments

  • Harnessing the power of robotics to enable operations in environments so extreme, humans could not even wilfully venture - space, nuclear and deep subsea.

The opportunity to exploit the power of robotics in these applications has been recognised by the UK Government, with “Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for Extreme & Challenging Environments.” forming a key element of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF), resulting in millions of £GBP funding being injected into the sector.

Robots operating in these extreme environments face some unique challenges but also share many – extremes of temperature, pressure and uncertainty of position to name but a few.

The lecture aims to connect expertise from a range of these discrete industry sectors, to share problems, exchange solutions and create opportunities for horizontal innovation.
